A UPS Tracking Number is generally 18-character long, and usually starts with 1Z. The format of a 1Z tracking number is standard in UPS, and understanding the elements of the Tracking Number can help you provide a visual cue related to your shipment.
UPS 1Z Tracking Number format:
1Z<aaaaaa><ss><xxxxxxx><c>
1Z: Indicates that the tracking number is of UPS.
aaaaaa: Shipper's account number. This is a six-character alphanumeric value (may contain a combination of alphabets and digits).
ss: Two characters of UPS Service Level indicator. E.g. 01 for Next Day Air, 03 for UPS Ground.
xxxxxxx: seven characters of the tracking number. These seven characters can also indicate whether the tracking number was generated using Host System (Offline UPS requiring PLD submission), UPS Worldship, or using the UPS API. We'll soon have an article to breakdown this number range as well. In the meantime, you may contact your shipping solution provider or reach out to us, for queries.
